In nWoD you have a different vibe, its more about mysteries, horror and nightmares lurking in the darkness. There you have deep, well developed lore spanning thousands of years and the entire globe. Well, here is the difference: in cWoD you have (especially in vampire) strong goth-punk vibe infused with apocalypticism.

It also recently got God Machine Chronicle update and second editions which are more polished, corrected and refreshed.īut you're probably also interested in the fluff or lore. You probably want to know what's the difference? Well, first its the game mechanics, nWoD is better than cWoD in this aspect simply because it fresher and more up to our times. My advice would be to cut your teeth on vampire (joke totally intended) and then look into Changeling and Promethean later in the year when the new editions come out.įirst, you must decide whether you want to play cWoD or nWoD. You can still pick up the first edition books for them, but they'll also require a copy of the core World of Darkness rulebook (the "blue book") and run off a slightly different set of basic rules. Requiem is different from Masquerade in that it has a much looser setting and is based more around personal horror and the struggle of self than global vampiric conspiracies and the end of the world.Ĭhangeling and Promethean are both for the new World of Darkness (like Requiem) but don't have 2nd editions yet - they're going to be released later this year. If you fancy trying Vampire: the Requiem (which is the successor to the older Masquerade, and is pretty different in tone) you'll want to pick up Vampire: the Requiem 2nd Edition which is an all in one book which is a great intro and has everything you need. Revised is an easier entry point with a better introduction to the setting, but has a lot less content. V20 is a huge tome with a lot of stuff from lots of other books all brought into one place with some update rules, but it's expensive and potentially a little overwhelming. If you want to play with the setting of Bloodlines you'll either want Vampire: the Masquerade 20th Anniversary edition (shortened to V20) or Vampire: the Masquerade Revised Edition.
